Walsh University

Walsh University, a private institution with 2,192 students, stands as a beacon of values-driven education in Ohio. Guided by its Latin motto, "Sed Deus Dat Incrementum" (God Gives the Increase), Walsh offers a comprehensive learning experience steeped in its Catholic identity and the enduring charism of the Brothers of Christian Instruction, who founded the university and continue to play a vital role.

The university's history is a testament to its resilience and vision. Originally established as LaMennais College in Alfred, Maine, in 1951, the institution found its permanent home in Canton, Ohio, thanks to the generosity and vision of Bishop Emmet M. Walsh, its namesake, who donated $304,000 for its relocation. The present-day campus began its development on 50 acres of farmland in 1959, with the Brothers serving as foundational faculty and guiding its growth through the decades.

From its early days as Walsh College, the institution evolved significantly, achieving university status in 1993. This growth also extended to its athletic program, as Walsh University transitioned from NAIA competition to become a proud member of the NCAA Division II in 2013, offering students a dynamic collegiate experience. Under the leadership of President Timothy J. Collins, appointed in 2019, Walsh University continues its mission to foster academic excellence, spiritual development, and community engagement for its diverse student body.
