Wayne County Schools Career Center

Wayne County Schools Career Center stands as a vital hub for career and technical education, empowering high school students and adult learners alike with the skills necessary for real-world success. As a public vocational high school, WCSCC is known for its practical, hands-on approach to education, serving a wide array of students from 13 different school districts. It's a place where academic learning is directly applied, preparing students not just for graduation, but for meaningful careers and continued education.

The institution's roots trace back to 1969, when it first opened its doors as the Wayne County Joint Vocational School. Strategically located in Smithville for optimal accessibility across Wayne County, it initially offered 22 programs and three academic classes to 490 students. This foundational period also saw the integration of the county's Adult Education program, which had begun two years prior in 1967, into the new facility. This early vision set the stage for a legacy of responsive and relevant vocational training.

Over the decades, WCSCC has continuously evolved to meet the demands of the modern workforce. Its growth led to a name change in 1984, reflecting its expanded offerings and broader mission. Today, the center proudly offers 26 distinct high school programs alongside 18 academic classes, catering to approximately 750 high school students. Beyond its high school programs, WCSCC maintains a robust Adult Education division, impacting over 3,000 adult learners annually, further solidifying its role as a cornerstone of lifelong learning and workforce development in the community.
