About West Shore Community College
West Shore Community College: Student-focused education growing since 1967 in Michigan.
Begin your academic journey at West Shore Community College, a vibrant public institution nestled between Ludington and Manistee in Mason County, Michigan. Founded in 1967 with the guiding motto, "Where students come first!", WSCC has consistently grown from a modest start to serve nearly 1,200 students today. It’s a place where dedicated faculty and staff are committed to fostering success and providing an accessible path to higher education in west Michigan.
The vision for WSCC began in 1962 when local high school superintendents recognized the need for a community college in their districts. By September 1968, the college started offering evening courses, quickly followed by the dedication of its first permanent building, the Campus Center (now the Administrative Building), in the spring of 1970. From an initial enrollment of 118 students, West Shore has steadily expanded its reach and impact, becoming a cornerstone of educational opportunity in the region.
West Shore Community College prides itself on continually enhancing its learning environments and student support facilities. Major developments include the addition of an 18,000 sq. ft. state-of-the-art science wing and a 36,000 sq. ft. ice arena in 2002. Further expanding its commitment to the community, the Manistee County Education Center opened in 2006 through a partnership with West Shore Medical Center, followed by the impressive 38,000 sq. ft. Schoenherr Campus Center in 2008, designed to enrich the student experience. These modern facilities underscore WSCC's dedication to providing a contemporary and engaging educational setting.
