West Texas A&M University stands as a beacon of education and resilience in the heart of the Texas Panhandle. Founded in 1910, this public university has grown into a vibrant institution serving over 10,000 students. The university's journey began as West Texas State Normal College, opening its doors in 1910 with 152 students and 16 faculty members. Its early years were marked by a spirit of determination, notably when its Administration Building tragically burned down in 1914. This period also saw the iconic American modernist painter Georgia O'Keeffe lead the Art Department from 1916 to 1918, leaving an indelible mark on the university's cultural heritage.
