West Valley College

Step into West Valley College, a dynamic public community college that has been a cornerstone of education since its founding in 1963. With a vibrant community of 8,056 students, WVC is dedicated to fostering academic excellence and personal growth, proudly serving the educational needs of the Campbell Union High School, Los Gatos-Saratoga Joint Union High School, and Santa Clara Unified School Districts. Under the leadership of President Jennifer Taylor-Mendoza, the college continues its legacy of providing accessible, high-quality learning experiences.

The college’s journey began with a bold vision. Formed by enthusiastic voter approval in January 1963, West Valley Junior College first opened its doors on September 14, 1964. Its initial home was the former Campbell Union Grammar School, a temporary solution that, despite its WPA-era buildings being deemed unsafe, quickly became a hub of learning, with most classrooms housed in innovative portable units on the former playgrounds.

Recognizing the need for a dedicated and expansive educational environment, the college embarked on an ambitious plan for a new campus. The land for its permanent home was acquired in 1966, followed by a ceremonial groundbreaking on June 15, 1967. The subsequent years saw a gradual but determined transition, with the first new building welcoming students in 1968. This phased move culminated in 1975, marking the full completion and occupation of its modern, purpose-built campus, designed to inspire generations of learners. West Valley College stands today as a testament to community vision and enduring commitment to education.
