West Valley College

West Valley College, established in 1963, serves as a vital public community college in the heart of the Silicon Valley region. With a vibrant student body of 8,056 individuals, led by President Jennifer Taylor-Mendoza, the college offers an accessible and quality educational experience. It was specifically founded to meet the growing educational needs of the Campbell Union, Los Gatos-Saratoga Joint Union, and Santa Clara Unified High School Districts, quickly becoming a cornerstone for local higher education.

The college's journey began with its formation in January 1963, spurred by voter approval, and saw its first classes commence on September 14, 1964. Initially operating from the former Campbell Union Grammar School, which utilized temporary classrooms due to safety concerns with its original buildings, West Valley College demonstrated remarkable adaptability. This temporary phase set the stage for significant expansion, reflecting a strong community commitment to developing a dedicated higher education institution.

A pivotal moment arrived with the purchase of land for the current permanent campus in 1966, followed by groundbreaking in 1967. The transition to the new, purpose-built facilities began in 1968, with classes gradually moving from temporary to permanent structures. By 1975, the college fully occupied its modern campus, solidifying its presence and capacity to serve a diverse student population. As a public community college, West Valley is dedicated to providing foundational education, career training, and pathways for transfer, preparing students for future academic and professional success.
