Western New Mexico University

Western New Mexico University stands as a proud public institution with a deep-rooted history, passionately committed to its motto: "Transforming The Future Together." Established on February 11, 1893, as the New Mexico Normal School, it swiftly became a pivotal educational hub in the New Mexico Territory. Classes first commenced on September 3, 1894, initially in a rented Presbyterian church, before the dedication of its enduring Old Main building in November 1896, majestically situated on a hillside overlooking the charming town of Silver City.

From its foundational days, WNMU's commitment to education was clear.
