Western Seminary

Western Seminary, dedicated to "Trustworthy and Accessible Training for Gospel-centered Transformation," has been a cornerstone of theological education since its founding in 1927. Evolving from the Portland Baptist Bible Institute, it quickly established itself as a vital institution offering graduate-level theological education with greater depth for the Northwestern United States.

The seminary is distinguished by its pioneering spirit in making theological education widely available. It was one of the earliest institutions to offer the Doctor of Ministry degree with a modular schedule, significantly easing access for out-of-state students. Furthermore, Western Seminary was at the forefront of online learning, launching an online-only program in 1981 and continuously adapting its courses for DVD, streaming, and fully online degree programs through its Western Seminary Online Campus.

Throughout its history, Western Seminary has expanded its reach with multiple extension campuses and teaching sites across the Western United States, including California, Arizona (now Phoenix Seminary, an independent institution), and Washington (now The Seattle School of Theology & Psychology, an independent institution). This commitment to accessibility, combined with strong leadership like that of former president Earl D.
