Westminster Theological Seminary

Westminster Theological Seminary stands as a distinguished private seminary, dedicated to upholding a robust Reformed theological tradition. Established in 1929, largely through the visionary leadership and funding of J. Gresham Machen, it was founded by a cadre of esteemed professors from Princeton Theological Seminary. These scholars departed Princeton amidst a theological controversy, determined to preserve and faithfully continue Princeton's historic theological legacy.

From its inception, Westminster Theological Seminary has been a bulwark of historic Reformed thought, maintaining a close relationship with the Orthodox Presbyterian Church, which Machen also helped to found. The seminary prides itself on a lineage of profound theological scholarship, originating with its founders like John Murray, Oswald Allis, Robert Dick Wilson, and Cornelius Van Til, all of whom were foundational figures in Reformed theology and previously taught at Princeton.

Today, under the leadership of President Peter Lillback, who also serves as a professor of historical theology, Westminster continues to foster a rigorous academic environment. With a student body of 1183, the seminary extends its influence globally, evidenced by its 2011 Memorandum of Understanding with International Reformed Evangelical Seminary in Jakarta, Indonesia. This collaboration includes publishing scholarly journals like the International Journal of Reformed Theology and Life and Unio Cum Christo, as well as establishing the Stephen Tong Chair of Reformed Theology, underscoring its commitment to theological education worldwide.
