About Westmoreland County Community College
Westmoreland County Community College: Your ambitious path to career success or four-year transfer.
Established in 1970 after being proposed by local school directors in 1967, Westmoreland County Community College (WCCC) embarked on a mission to provide accessible education. Starting with evening classes for 243 students in 1971, WCCC quickly found its permanent home in Youngwood by 1972, expanding its offerings to include day classes and fulfilling its "Ambitious." motto by fostering student growth and community development.
Today, WCCC has evolved far beyond its original Youngwood campus, now spanning four buildings and operating additional education centers in Murrysville, Fayette County, Indiana County, Latrobe, New Kensington, and a Public Safety Training Center in Smithton. This widespread presence ensures that students across the region have convenient access to a comprehensive range of academic programs, including 64 associate degree options, 13 diploma choices, and 49 certificate programs designed to prepare them for immediate careers or seamless transfer to four-year institutions. The college also champions lifelong learning through its diverse Continuing Education courses for adults and summer camps for kids.
Student life at WCCC is vibrant, particularly through its athletics program, the Wolfpack. Competing in the Western Pennsylvania Athletic Conference, WCCC has celebrated significant achievements, including its women's cross country team ranking number two in the nation in Fall 2020. Demonstrating its commitment to student-athletes, the athletics program transitioned to NCJAA Division II in Fall 2023, now offering scholarships. Whether you're aiming for a specific career, planning to transfer, or seeking personal enrichment, WCCC provides a supportive and dynamic environment to achieve your educational goals.
