Westmoreland County Community College

Westmoreland County Community College stands as a dynamic public institution, dedicated to fostering ambition and preparing students for success. Guided by its simple yet powerful motto, "Ambitious.", Westmoreland serves as a vital springboard for individuals seeking career readiness, skill enhancement, or a seamless transfer to a four-year baccalaureate program. With a rich history of growth and community integration, Westmoreland provides an accessible and high-quality educational experience across a wide range of academic and vocational pathways.

Founded in 1970 following proposals by local school directors, Westmoreland began its educational journey modestly in 1971, holding evening classes for 243 students at Jeannette High School. Its rapid expansion led to a permanent home in a former Westinghouse plant in Youngwood by fall 1972, quickly introducing day classes. Over the decades, the college's main Youngwood campus has grown to four buildings, complemented by six additional education centers strategically located throughout the region, ensuring educational opportunities are within reach for a broad community.

Academically, Westmoreland is robust, offering an impressive 64 associate degree programs, 13 diploma options, and 49 certificate programs tailored to meet diverse student goals. Beyond traditional degrees, it provides comprehensive Continuing Education courses for adults, displaced workers, and non-traditional students, even hosting engaging summer camps for kids. The student experience is further enriched by the vibrant Wolfpack athletics, featuring teams like baseball, basketball, and volleyball. The women's cross country team notably achieved a national ranking of number two in Fall 2020. In an exciting development for student-athletes, the program transitioned to NCJAA Division II in Fall 2023, now offering scholarships, reinforcing Westmoreland's commitment to holistic student development. Dr. Kristin L. Mallory is set to lead the college as its new president starting July 2025.
