In 1951, it moved to the breathtaking Ailsa Farms, a site once owned by the family of Garret Hobart, the twenty-fourth Vice President of the United States. At its heart lies Hobart Manor, a stunning castle-style mansion built in 1877, which served as the Hobart family's summer retreat. This magnificent structure, now housing the President's Office, was rightfully designated a national and state landmark in 1976, offering a unique blend of heritage and contemporary academic life.

William Paterson University's journey reflects a commitment to educational breadth. After relocating, it broadened its scope beyond teaching degrees in 1966, paving the way for a more expansive curriculum. Renamed William Paterson College of New Jersey in 1971, it proudly honors William Paterson—a pivotal figure in American history who served as the state's first senator, second governor, and a US Supreme Court Justice.
