About Wilson Community College

WCC: Pioneering community education and student success in North Carolina since 1958.

Wilson Community College (WCC) stands as a proud and integral member of the North Carolina Community College System, boasting a rich history that dates back to its founding in 1958 as the Wilson Industrial Education Center. As one of the system’s oldest institutions, WCC has consistently evolved to meet the educational and workforce needs of its community, transforming from its humble beginnings in a high school annex to a robust campus dedicated to learning and growth. Under the leadership of President Jami Woods, WCC continues to be a cornerstone of educational opportunity.

Throughout its history, WCC has been a trailblazer in academic offerings and student success. In 1964, it gained the authority to award the Associate in Applied Science Degree, expanding career-focused pathways. Further demonstrating its commitment to comprehensive education, the college secured the authority to award the Associate in Arts degree in 1993, significantly enhancing transferability for students aspiring to pursue bachelor's degrees at four-year institutions. This commitment was further solidified in 1997 when WCC, along with the entire NC Community College System, converted to the semester system, streamlining transitions for its students.

Beyond academics, Wilson Community College is dedicated to providing an exceptional student experience through continuous investment in its facilities. The campus has seen numerous additions and renovations, from the Salvatore DelMastro auditorium in 1997 to the Frank L. Eagles Community Business Center in 2003, which serves as a vital hub for meetings and classrooms. In 2009, WCC opened a new student center showcasing sustainable technologies, followed by the renovation of the Lee Technology Center in 2019 and the state-of-the-art A. Dwight Johnson Learning Resource Center in 2021. These ongoing developments ensure students have access to modern resources and an engaging learning environment, solidifying WCC's reputation as a forward-thinking institution.
