Wiregrass Georgia Technical College (WGTC) stands as a cornerstone of public technical education in South-Central Georgia. Part of the esteemed Technical College System of Georgia, WGTC is dedicated to providing comprehensive education across an expansive eleven-county service area that includes Atkinston, Ben Hill, Berrien, Brooks, Coffee, Cook, Echols, Irwin, Lanier, Lowndes, and Wilcox counties. WGTC's significant history dates back to July 1, 2010, when it was established through the strategic merger of East Central Technical College and Valdosta Technical College. This pivotal consolidation, approved in 2008 by the State Board of Technical and Adult Education, marked a new era for technical education in the region, creating a more robust and unified institution capable of serving a broader student population. This strong foundation has allowed WGTC to grow into a vital resource for workforce development.

With its main campuses strategically located in Valdosta, Fitzgerald, Douglas, and Sparks, WGTC ensures accessibility for its diverse student body of 6,198. Beyond these primary locations, the college also extends its reach with classes at Moody Air Force Base in Lowndes County and in Rochelle, alongside Adult Education Centers in all eleven service counties offering essential Basic Education, GED, and ESL programs. This commitment to wide-ranging educational access, coupled with its highly regarded programs, culminated in WGTC being recognized as the first recipient of the Governor Sonny Perdue Award for Technical College of the Year in 2010, underscoring its excellence and impact on student success.
