Wytheville Community College

Wytheville Community College (WCC) stands as a vital public community college, serving as an accessible gateway to higher education and career development. Established with a unique heritage, WCC first opened its doors on September 19, 1963, not as an independent entity, but as a two-year branch of the esteemed Virginia Tech, an authorization granted by the Virginia General Assembly in 1962. This early connection provided a strong academic foundation and set a precedent for quality education.

In 1967, WCC transitioned to become a proud member of the newly formed Virginia Community College System (VCCS). This move integrated the college into a broader network dedicated to providing affordable and comprehensive educational opportunities across the Commonwealth. As a VCCS institution, WCC continues its mission to support local students, offering diverse programs designed to prepare them for further university studies or immediate entry into the workforce.

Throughout its history within the VCCS, WCC has been guided by a succession of dedicated leaders. Since 1967, six presidents have steered the institution, each contributing to its growth and evolution. Currently, Dr. Dean E. Sprinkle, who assumed the presidency on July 1, 2015, leads the college, fostering an environment where students can thrive and achieve their academic and professional aspirations.
